Why do avent bottles leak

And not theough the nipple. From under the cap. I will do what you explained now and forever! Thank you. Facing leak between the adapter and teat with avent new model new model have no ring and the philip service center said it do not have warranty. All the parts do not have external damage and force applied was light too, to me it is a quality issue.

Anybody face the same issue? We have tried loose tightening, over tightening, dry and wet… some nipples just leak bad regardless of how we put the bottle together.

It really is a pain after we had no issues for the first 6 months. The adapter ring makes it impossible for it to stay…just saying. Same problem. No matter how delicately I tighten the bottle it still leaks around the nipple. I switch to Playtex ventaire and I am much happier. No messy baby no clothes to change after no hidden milk in their neck rolls. I stumbled upon this because I also am having this problem. These bottles were specifically chosen for our 1st child and all they do is leak.

Who has time to deal with extra milk leaking, I am already trying to prevent it from going down his chin. Never purchasing again. Your email address will not be published.

I will give the method taught on this site a try as well. Thank you for this - I just covered my son in formula and he was none too impressed!! Will adjust all the teats in a minute ;. Hello, We were really frustated with the leakage. It really worked for us. Thanks a lot. I have used them for my 6 week old son and just so over this brand and system unless I get replacement bottles like poster above. For first son I used NUK and thought their system was a pain, with the teat having to be in the baby's mouth a certain way.

But nothing compared to these leaky bottles and the solution posted by curious and driven consumer! Hi there, I've tried but sadly it didn't on mine. I hv given up, am changing to another brand tomorrow. Thks anyway. Btw, from your comments on your post, I hv the reason to believe you actually work for Avent. If you are, you hv some explanation to do. To the anonymous above, I heard making baseless accusation seems to be a fad for some people especially when they are hiding behind the screen.

To sam and mummy chan, and others who got it to work, I'm glad it helped. It seems to me that the bottles are all leaking now that I have tried your method - have no idea why, but it is making me more frustrated than ever before. I did contact Avent and they promised to send the bottles to me here in Europe via London office, but hey have not come soon enough!! To "Anonymous" posted on Dec 3, , pm Are you a detective or something?

I can't believe us stupid folks didn't figure out that secret long ago! All this time I thought it was Professor Plum with the candlestick in the library. Where do I send a check for your sleuthing services?? This seem to worked just fine for me, thank you Seem you just need to make sure the niple is pulled all the way back and making sure is align, but for does that can get this to work by looking at your simple instructions i really feel sorry for their kids The bottles with the blue ring leak too!

It is infuriating! I plan to try your tip and hope it works. I feel duped spending all that money on leaky bottles and fantasize about the Avent company making it up to us somehow when I'm not dreamng of crushing the bottles with my car in a rage.

I contacted Avent, and they sent me replacement bottles They didn't send me the new ones. Why would they think that all 9 of my bottles leaked and would be remedied by sending me 9 more of the same? I contacted Avent and they also send me the same that I already had - twice! When I told them this, they said that I should try the bottles as they were improved. Didn't even bother. Tossed them and went out immediatelty and bought Born Free bottles. I have tried all these methods and some of them DO work sometimes.

However, I haven't had complete success, always. I DO have good news though Thanx Vin!! WOW - cling wrap????? Hopefully it doesn't have a rip - did you know that cling wrap would choke your baby even if the most smallest piece was to come off.

I would rather have a leaky bottle than a dead baby. Get rid of the cling wrap and fix the bottle problem with a safer method please! Thanks for sharing this.

I'll try these trick later. However, will the above instructions work on BPA-free bottles? I have regular avent bottles and they never leak. I only experienced it with the BPA-free bottles. I am very disapppointed. Please help. H, Crunchy! It's me again. Unfortunately, it didn't work on my BPA-free bottles. Btw, where do I find that little nick outside the ring?

Can you post a picture? Thanks for your help. Yes, Crunchy's method works on BPA-free bottles; it worked on all 9 of mine. Adhis - How come it didn't work on mine?

I went ahead and bought new airflex bottles last week. They don't leak at all. Great idea, was at my wit's end trying to prevent the leak. Worked like a charm! Will let others know and will give credit where it's due.

Thanks for the tip! Tried it and it worked first time- would have been great if Avent could have been so helpful in the first place!! Well done you xxx. I NEVER have leaks anymore, and once you get the hang of them, these bottles are fantastic for a colicky bubby.

Here is how to do them so that they work: Credit here to Crunchie, who came up with the valve alignment tip - it works. Make sure the nipple and ring are wet when you assemble this just makes a small vacuum to help them stay in place.

On the nipple, you will see small grooves on the base that look like a roman numeral 2 II. Depending on your nipples you may have 3, 5 or 6 sets of grooves. Align as many of these grooves as you can with the 'lips' on the inside of the plastic ring. I find if I do it first the nipple just bends in the bottle and so the hole isn't compressed, leaking milk into the cap when shaken.

A few times I'd done it, it just did a half turn and felt tight so I assumed it was on. It wasn't! A half turn means it is on crooked and not properly. Practise a few times, and if you are aware when you are screwing it on what it feels like to get a few good turns, you get to know really quickly if it is on properly or not.

When feeding bubby, line up the little notch on the ring with your bubby's nose. After a few sucks, you should hear a whistling sound and you can actually see the air bubbles rising to the surface of the milk. Trust me, well worth trying with these instructions! Ashley x. Ok- we get it.

For YOU, lining up the valves does nothing. For some reason it does "something" for most of us. We're not defending Avent here. I think the point of this blog post was to help out parents who had already made the significant investment into owning several of these bottles. Don't have a fit because it's working for others and not you. I hve a question though! My avent bottles don't leak, but you are supposed to hear the valve working and see the bubbles come up to the surface.

This only happens sometimes, so doesn't work properly! How should I thread it so that it always makes that noise, I find when it makes that noise, bubby is fine but when it doesnt she is quite colicky. Thank you so much for the great tip. I used Avent bottles for my 2 children in and , never had a problem. Now I was using them for my youngest en the bottle was constantly leaking.

I followed your instructions and now I have no problems anymore! I knew there had to be a method to get these bottles from leaking I have never been so frustrated esp. I didn't want to give up so easily, so before i found your forum I examined the nipple and the cap to see if there was some aligning I had to do.

You are right, you confirmed what I thought and it works Thanks so much Crunchy, great solution. Avent should put this on the box! Just read this after a stressful feeding session with my son I hope it works! What annoys me is that it only leak sometimes, and only with the honey-colored ones, made using PES. Besides the material used, I really couldn't tell the difference between the two.

We use the same Airflex nipples on all, and the rings seems to be identical. Please let me know if I'm wrong! So anyway, wish me luck! I don't know if that contributes to the leaking It was feeding time for my 5 month old son again and leakage as always. I googled avent complaints and found your blog. It worked for me. You have made me so happy. Now with this solution I can say bye to the problem.

Thank you so much for this. We've been using the Avent bottles for 3 weeks with no problem and then tonight they all seemed to start leaking at once. Tried your suggestion and we are now leak-free again. Thank you so much for the tips. I can't wait to try them. I have a different question about the Avent bottles that I hoped you could help me with. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!! I was using the Boots own brand bottles which were amazing, but after 5 months of a bit of wear and tear i purchased the new Avent bottles.

However i would not recommend them to anybody as the top of the bottles have exploded off on numerous occasions scalding myself, my mum and my mother in law. I assembled them and made the milk according to the instructions contained with the bottles and it makes no difference. I will be writing an official letter of complaint to Phillips.

Thank you very much for your wonderful post!!! My husband and I were so frustrated We have twin boys so this Avent leaks was not helping us a bit but thanks to your blog Do NOT try the "screw the lid on with the cap and when the cap moves, its tight enough" This will result in a very wet you and baby. I think the alignment thing might work though. I will try all week and report back after significant testing to prove this theory.

Thanks for the idea - I have a glimmer of hope! Ugh, I had my 4th child in January. Bought the bottles a couple months before and after she was born as I wanted 12 total. Anyhow, these things are horrible. Never used this brand before but thought I'd try it as it seemed closer to breastfeeding for my little one as far as the nipples go. She stopped bf at 4 weeks due to getting RSV from one of my older children from calssamtes as my kids weren't sick and no one has been allowed over since it's flu season.

Anyways, they leak all the time. I have done everything possible as said here and what they told me when I called. This only works sometimes. And also why should I have to sit here with a crying baby ready to feed trying to line up these lines or wetting the nipple and everything else to insure it works?? This is ridiculous. They offered to replace and i have accepted and am willing to give it another round since I know my daughter doesn't want any other nipple.

Not only that, but now I have to teach my hubby, my 16, 8 and 7 year old how to do this?? They love to help and I need the help so I take it. I can't even begin to tell you what a hassle this is. While I appreciate the tips, they don't always work. Not your fault, but Avent needs to do something about this. BTW, I use powdered formula for the ease of convenince, I was told it's bc of the powder. Now i don't need to trash those bottles out after frustratingly trying to figure out if Phillip has f-up the whole avent range!

After reading this it helped a lot but it is hard to align them correctly. I didn't think about overtightening knocking off the alignment as well. Thanks for the tip. The Dr. He has no problems with Avent other than an occasionly drenching. By the way, while the leaking is annoying it seems every bottle out there has some kind of annoying attribute.

Extra parts, collapsing nipples. Avent is still our favorite. Glad it helped :. For those who still get the leak occasionally, check the alignment again. Make sure you get these when you buy. Hi Crunchy, My hubby and I tried a few times and the bottle still leaks, do u think i should send back to the manufacturer?

I'm now in Malaysia. Hi, thanks for the reply. Quite regret to find out that the problem persists for quite sometime but they are not doing anything or recall the item. The one you bought recently is BPA free? I will call them up for replacement or at least request for the adaptor ring. Your blog is pretty informative for new mother, I should have read your blog before deciding to buy the Avent bottle. I really did not know the functions of the Avent bottle condo costa rica condominium costa rica.

I am so excited to try this because I was actually on here trying to find a solution and also send a nasty email to Avent demanding a replacement or refund! Luckily I found this first and have not sent that email.

I was so happy with these bottles at first, but after a couple of uses the leaking started and it was so frustrating So yeah, I hope this works for me. But honestly Thank you for taking the time to post this so thoroughly! Thank you for sharing and eliminating my frustration! Just curious It would have been nice to have read instructions like the ones you had provided from the get-go!! I experienced leaking with these bottles when I worked as a nanny but figured out how to stop the leaks.

Now that I have a baby of my own I bought them and the 4oz bottles came with the blue and white ring which I thought was for the purpose of stopping leaks never had a problem I just started using the 9oz bottles today cause my son is now taking a bigger bottle but these didnt come with the blue and white ring and are leaking! I will be trying your trick! Hope it works. Oh lord I'm rolling over laughing.

I just bought the new bottles and it was leaking very badly. My baby's entire shirt was wet with half the contents gone by the time I realised what was happening.

After cursing Avent haha and reading your post I just realised I wasn't using the blu and white ring! I was about to throw the darn bottle across the street!!! This has happened so many times and now I'm covered in milk!

I just tried putting it on your way and it stopped leaking! I did have a "DUH" moment there Oh, Crunchy My wife and I was giving up on our huge investment in these Avent bottles which we bought only recently but it was without the blue-white ring -Must be some old stock they are selling! Anyway, will surely try it out when I get back home today. I was so frustrated with the Avent bottles and swore that I'll be buying a different brand when it's time for my baby to switch to the big 9oz bottles.

But now that I read your tips I won't have to switch and adjust to a different brand when that time comes. Thank you so much I was getting so frustrated with these bottles and was ready to throw all of them away. Lucky i read up on it before doing it.. I lost the plot with these bottles after the entire bottle leaked out when we were supposed to go out for lunch, even after shaking it before we left for the day and following all the fab instructions here which are great and do work most of the time.

There is just no rhyme nor reason why the bottles leak!! So very angrily I had to return home to get another bottle. Cue a very annoyed mummy phoning avent and reading them the riot act. Anyway they sent me out new rings, nipples and sealant discs to shake the formula up in and then I had to put the teats in and that made no difference so we went back to how we had always made them.

I just phoned them there again as I am still really frustrated when making the bottles and them leaking through the vents and they have offered to replace them. They said there is no warranty but as goodwill they would replace them. I said I had no faith in the same bottles and said I had noticed the new ones with the new insert so they are sending me out those instead! Fingers crossed they manage to stop me swearing til the air is blue!!!

So give Avent a phone, the more folk complain the more they have to listen, right?! Thank you so much for the advice. I became upset when it started leaking and then found your website for the solution. I was the poster on the 14th Sept. No more leaking, so if you do complain to them and they offer to send you out replacements make sure you ask for those instead. I told them I no longer had faith in the the other bottles. Avent refused to send me anything but the honey-colored bottles with no adapter rings.

They insisted the adapter ring had nothing to do with whether the bottle leaked or not. I called three times. I just sold the extra unused bottles the company kept sending me. Just throw them all away and tell all your friends not to buy Advent bottles. Eventually none will be sold and they'll start listening to the consumer. OMG, i bought the ones with the bkue n white rims, after a month of usig, one of them started leaking..

Emailed to them n waiting for a reply. Seriously, they should come up with the leaking solution rather than letting it pass to consumers! Thanks for sharing ur tips, any tips on the one one with the blue n white rim?? Oh my gosh, I am sooo glad I found this!!! There have been so many times when I thought I was going to cry I was so frustrated with these bottles.

I am surprised that people haven't picketed Avent, and that they're rated so high, because I would have never figured out how to stop the leaks on my own. Shame on Avent for not offering more help, I am forever grateful for yours.

However, on principle, I will no longer buy anymore Avent bottles. It should't be so complicated, and it's been months and months of frustration. Glad to know it wasn't only me. I am so glad I found this post, thank you sooooo much!! We used them for our first daughter and put up with the leaks but having just had my second daughter a month ago, I am already fed up of the leaks and couldn't bear another year with them!!

So I was just shopping for some new bottles but finding a whole new set so expensive and not wanting to waste our good supply of avent bottles, I decided to google the leak and see what came up Your method totally worked and I can't tell you how relieved I am not to have to replace all our bottles.

Its a shame Avent couldn't explain this since its such a simple technical solution and obviously so many people have the problem. Thank you again. Just had our baby and started using bottles we bought in Jan sale from boots. We have the leak problem everyone else mentions here; what a pain.
