Why gps on a camera

Certain countries prohibit the use of GPS recording equipment within their borders. This means that you need to turn the GPS mode OFF when in an airplane, hospital or other location that prohibits the use of such gear. To triangulate your location, the camera needs to access a minimum of three satellites. If three or four satellites are accessible by the camera, it can record the position information onto the image file.

You can also view the GPS data on a map after you've downloaded the images to your computer, with select software.

Do they sell those models in china or just sell a different cheap model to avoid rules -- hide signature Do they sell those models in china or just sell a different cheap model to avoid rules I assume they have identical non-V models, as has been the case with their GPS models in the past. The new Nikon P has it. I think the problem is that camera manufacturers think the same way as Gary Friedman: "There is a problem with getting a new fix after camera standby.

Depending on your standby timeout and shooting behaviour, this may result in the GPS never getting a fix because it will just start over again and again and shut down before it got a fix. The Canon 6D will keep the GPS switched on constantly, even when the camera is switched off not only in standby.

This will give a very high chance of a GPS fix, but it will also slowly drain the battery over 5 days which at least proves that GPS does not have to cause "a huge power drain" as people often claim.

So unless you manually switch your GPS on and off or remove the batteries while storing the camera, you will always find a dead camera if you haven't used it for a week.
