What makes a good corporal in the atc

Remember that anyone who holds any rank relies on respect to function. Setting the right example to those below you is the way forward. Its always the case that people will do things better if they respect the person giving the order rather than do it for the sake of it because they are ordered to. Above all though enjoy being an NCO you ve been given the rank because your sqn commander and their staff have seen something in you that they feel is worth nurturing.

Make sure that through your actions and behaviour their faith in you hasnt been misplaced. A Cdt Cpl will have specific duties and responsibilities and should be able to: A. Recognise the need for discipline and be able to apply it with fairness and common sense. Communicate clearly, orally and in writing. Plan and organise a given task. Command a drill squad. While it has a humourous connotation it has a serious edge.

Mind you I remember asking for cadets regardless of rank to write pieces for a newsletter we did a few years ago and many came back in text speak, which we had then to translate into English.

These additional responsibilities show the staff trust in you to do a good job. By now you will have been a member of the ATC for some time and be in a position to pass on the tips and tricks you have learnt as a cadet. Most Wings also offer training weekends for Cadet Sergeants to develop your skills further. For more information on the skills needed to become a Cadet Sergeant the following document will provide more detail. The next rank on the promotion ladder is Cadet Flight Sergeant.

By now you will also have been given plenty of opportunities to command the squadron at drill parades as well as in public. At this stage you will be working more closely with staff members in organising events. You can even start looking at gaining different qualifications that will allow you to take other cadets on different activities. The rank of Cadet Warrant Officer is the final one you can achieve as a cadet before thinking about joining the Squadron staff.

To become a Cadet Warrant Officer you must be aged 18 and selected by your Squadron to attend an interview at Wing level. This interview is usually run by the Wing Commander and a number of Wing staff and will test you on your knowledge of the ATC along with questioning you on your future aspirations. On successful completion of the interview you will become a more integrated member of the Squadron staff team. Exercise appropriate responsibility for the welfare of cadets. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with squadron Fire Orders.

Advise cadets on the basic organisation of the ATC. Perform the responsibilities and activities of a JNCO. Participate in the planning and organisation of squadron activities.
